Honey Sesame Chicken Recipe

Thursday, May 24, 2012
Honey Sesame Chicken has always been a huge favorite when we went shopping at the mall in the food court.

The coating absorbed all that sweet sauce with an Asian sesame nutty flavor in this tender mouth-watering boneless chicken served over white rice.

The best part about making your own in your own kitchen is you can have more than the small serving in the mall and it's so much tastier and delicious!

This recipe can be baked or air fried and the sauce literally takes 3 minutes to cook.

These little cubes of chicken are fantastic little bites with the best tasting sauce and are so easy to make.

Using this coating with egg, flour, and cornstarch with a few seasonings makes a super crispy coating and the chicken tastes great naked.

Serve them with your favorite fluffy white rice or Fried Rice, it will be a huge hit in your house for all Sesame Chicken Lovers out there.

Scroll down and see how easy it is to make homemade Honey Sesame Chicken and print it off.

The sauce is a combination of honey, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic, and some spices and takes just minutes to put together.

The sauce can be made the day before and doubled if you love more sauce.

If you've ever eaten this at the Chinese buffet you're going to feel like you nailed this one it's so good.

The chicken comes out super crispy with the addition of cornstarch and the coating is very flavorful.

I prefer to use the thighs since the meat is much juicier to me than breast meat, but you can use whatever boneless meats your family like or parts!

Bake, Stir Fry, Grill, or Air Fry Methods

  • NOTE: check the chicken to be at 165 degrees using a meat thermometer in the thickest part:

Cubes of delicious fried boneless chicken in a sesame sweet sauce that clings to every bite and is best served with fluffy white rice you're going to love this recipe if you're a fan of Sesame Chicken.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of boneless chicken (I use thighs however you can use whatever meat you prefer or parts of the chicken that is boneless. Pork, Beef, or Venison all work great)
  • Chicken Coating:
  • 2 eggs beaten with 1/4 cup water
  • Add to a ziplock bag for shaking the chicken in:
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon roasted granulated garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper
  • Sesame Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon roasted granulated garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup or tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable (or sesame oil it's great but very strong in flavor so use 2 teaspoons, not 1 tablespoon)
  • 2 tablespoons more of sesame seeds ( we love them so I use more)
  • Optional: for spicier sauce use a dash of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut the boneless chicken into cubes.
  2. Dip the chicken cubes into the egg mixture.
  3. Shake in the cornstarch/ flour mixture.
  4. Fry the chicken in around 2 to 3 inches of hot oil until golden brown around 4 to 5 minutes turning once.
  5. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Keep the chicken warm until all the chicken has completed cooking.
  7. Make the sauce:
  8. In a large frying pan, you can toast the sesame seeds in 1 tablespoon of butter if you couldn't find they toasted already just until browned and set aside.
  9. In another frying pan, blend together the ketchup, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, honey, granulated garlic, soy sauce, and any spices you prefer in the pan heat the sauce until smooth for around 3 minutes.
  10. Place the crispy chicken in the pan to coat the chicken.
  11. Serve with fluffy white rice.

  2. Wow how inventive. I don't use sesame seeds in cooking and they must add richness to the dish. I should try this. Have a nice day X

  11. @Anthony I started freezing the marinades because I am finding they tenderize and keep the chicken moist during the cooking stage. It was amazing how tough the chicken was without being in a frozen marinade. Then the best part is it's totally seasoned and ready to cook. If you work long hours like myself this is a win win meal! hope that helps.

  12. You have posted so many delicious marinades for summer grilling and this one looks to be just as tasty as the others. Love the honey sesame blend. Also, I see your comment to Anthony. Making preparation a convenience and improving on the texture of the meat is something we all can appreciate. I loved this series!
