Grandma' Italian Orange Juice Cookies Patriot Style

Freshly grated orange and the juice is in this soft Italian cookie. Then lightly iced and dressed up. Remembering to support our troops everyday and the great USA..

God Bless America!  Happy July 4th!

3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter, softened and cut into pieces
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
zest of half an orange (about 1/2 cup)
juice of half an orange
extra flour for rolling
Directions
Mix all ingredients together to form a ball. Roll into round balls or drop on a parchment lined cookie sheet. If dough is too sticky add a little flour. If you do the drop method they will flatten as they cook if the dough is sticky and you haven't added more flour to round them.  Bake at 350 till brown on the bottoms. After the cool, frost with a thin frosting made with confectionery sugar and water, sprinkle with non parels (tiny colored candies) and let dry.
This cookie is normally found on Italian Wedding cookie trays!

I love these with the patriotic decor! i have a similar recipe from my Godmother, but there's no decoration on them. These look so much more interesting!
