Low Sodium homemade soft flour tortilla so delicious you'll never buy store-bought again!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin light olive oil (or melted shortening)
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl mix together all ingredients with your hands or using an industrial mixer with a dough hook.
  2. Knead this dough for approximately 10 minutes by hand or using the dough hook.
  3. The dough then needs to rest before forming for 20 more minutes covered with a damp dish towel.
  4. Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll it into balls.
  5. Note: keep the unused dough covered with damp towels as you cook each one.
  6. Roll out the dough balls into circles
  7. Roll your dough balls into thin flat circles to 8-inch rounds.
  8. Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  9. Place a rolled-out tortilla into the heated pan and cook on each side for around 15 to 20 seconds when you see the bubbles flip it and cook on the other side for 15 to 20 seconds more.
  10. Note: ( Time varies and all depends on the thickness of your tortilla and time will vary accordingly). I always adjust the time and heat after I test the first one.

  1. Wonderful recipe, Claudia! The bakery tortillas I used to buy have been discontinued...and the others available just stink. I'm so glad you shared this :)
