Favorite Spice Blueberry Coffee Cake

I didn't show you the finished product first,
you will have to just scroll down to see how great this looks !

5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2  large eggs
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon fresh grated lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon fresh nutmeg, grated
3/4 cup whole milk
2 cups fresh blueberries or very well drained canned

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Oil spray a rectangular pan. In a mixing bowl beat together the butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon zest and sugar. Add vanilla and eggs and mix until well blended. Add milk and flour a little at a time alternating them until mixed together,  then fold in the blueberries. Pour the batter into the greased pan and set.
Bake until browned on top around 50 minutes  or until toothpick is clean in the middle.  Serve slightly warm topped with butter or whipped cream.

I am just staring at this picture wondering what it is that makes this cake so moist, still cannot figure that out, but I sure would like a piece!
I have been shying away from the fresh berries recently because I got a moldy pack of raspberries the other day. You know you cannot see in the center by the way they pack them-very irritating.
Anyhow, your cake does look amazing and I do like the touch of spice you put in there-yum!

This sound marvelous. My wife grew up with a blueberry farm right next to her house, so they are one of her favorites. Her mom used to make coffee cake all of the time, but I don't ever remember a blueberry coffee cake. I'll have to make this for her.

This looks grand - baked and unbaked! I still have blueberries from the summer - can you believe it? And I need a touch of summer in my life.

I have oatmeal with blueberries every morning for breakfast. This coffee cake would be a nice change of pace. Plus it looks so moist, it makes me salivate.
