Easy Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake

I know what you're all thinking, Apple Upside Down cake and not Pineapple the classic version!.

If you're looking for the easiest quick dessert using a doctored cake mix guess what? You can use any pie filling you like or even change it to pineapple using fresh or canned fruit.

Get creative and change it up to a new fruit every time, but the caramel glaze bakes right into the cake and when inverted it has a butter topping that's out of this world delicious.

Doctored Cake Mix



This recipe is so darn easy to make, even if you're, not a baker!


The cake mix can be any flavor you prefer also.


We love to change the pie filling to peach in summer or raspberry.


The fall is perfect for apples and it's amazing to watch the caramel makes itself by baking!


It's just so delicious all you need is a dollop of whipped cream to finish off this fabulous dessert or some ice cream?


You can even turn this into an elegant pretty dessert and drizzle ice cream caramel on the plate!

Ingredients Needed


  • cake mix any flavor
  • mayonnaise
  • eggs
  • water
  • brown sugar
  • butter
  • apple pie filling
  • cinnamon

  • whole pecans or any chopped or sliced nuts
  • chocolate chips
  • coconut
  • whipped cream
  •  ice cream topping IE chocolate sauce drizzled or caramel
  • ice cream

Tips

  3. you can substitute any pie fillings for upside-down cake
  4. add in like raisins or nuts are great with this cake
  5. use any kind of pan however bundt pan is heavy and needs longer cooling before inverting
  6. Also, test with a toothpick for completion of cooking

Easy Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake

This is a doctored cake mix recipe using spice cake, apple pie filling, and a buttery caramel baked over the apples. The perfect fall dessert and so easy!

Ingredients

  • 1 spice cake mix any brand or use yellow
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup water
  • Bottom of the pan:
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • Mix the cinnamon and pie filling in a bowl and set aside
  • Caramel
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Note: You can use 4 small tart apples thinly sliced or minced with 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 2 teaspoons flour mixed together instead of pie filling
  • Also, you can substitute another pie filling for the apple or canned fruits that are drained

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Prepare either 1 13 x9 sheet pan or 2 - pans. or one full-sized bundt pan.
  3. Place the stick of butter and brown sugar in the pan then into the preheated oven to melt them together.
  4. While the butter mixture is melting, beat the cake mix, eggs, mayonnaise, and water in a mixer until thick and smooth.
  5. Take out the pan when butter is all melted, stir the mixture together. 
  6. Spread the pie filling with cinnamon on the bottom of the prepared pan.
  7.  Pour the batter over the top of the apples and bake until the cake springs back and set in the center for around 45 minutes.
  8. After 5 minutes invert over a platter that fits the cake and will catch the hot juices being very careful. 
  9. Let cool completely.
