Italian Easter Desserts Blog Recipes

Chocolate Pustie

Vanilla Pustie

One of our must haves every Easter is this pastry called Italian pustie (Pastaciotti). They are made with a variety of fillings. Almond paste, chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, lemon, cheese, just to name a few. The flat one pictured above, is filled with chocolate pudding, the one with the button in the middle, is vanilla. I re posted this again because this is the one pastry every year that everyone asks me for the recipe. So, this is just a special re post, and these are this years updated pictures....

Easter homemade Italian pastries are always require allot of time to make, but once a year they are so worth it. Upstate NY bakeries are busy this time of the year, as they will sell more of these fancy pastries during this holiday than most others. Our fondest memories are with the Florentine Bakery , and Caruso's, in Utica, NY favorites for many years by the natives there. We could never wait for the season to start for them to make their Italian lemon ice, the are also noted for.

Then it wouldn't be Easter without Easter bread. We couldn't wait for grandma's famous Easter braided breads to get out of the oven, the smell alone was awesome! Easter Anisette Bread.

Ricotta is a main ingredient in most Italian Cheesecakes. Cassata is a cheesecake family favorite made with Ricotta and also famously made at Easter. Rum is commonly use in cakes. Cannoli will be another one on our table along with Creampuffs, Tiramisu .

Short and sweet post but hopefully you will find something here you will have in your home this Easter and think of What's Cookin' from our family to yours Happy Easter!
